AGP-BJP to contest LS polls together in Assam

AGP-BJP will together contest the Lok Sabha elections in Assam. The party will soon announce the names of the LS candidates.

New Delhi: BJP general secretary Ram Madhav confirmed on Wednesday that party will join hands with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) to contest Lok Sabha elections in Assam. The party will soon announce the names of the Lok Sabha candidates.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora said, "This alliance will not have any impact on Congress's poll prospect.”

"The drama of AGP to leave BJP alliance and stand with the people of Assam stands exposed. AGP dancing on the tune of Nagpur for their power hunger. The people of Assam must teach these traitors a lesson in the coming election,” Bora added.

In the 2014 general election, BJP bagged 7 seats out of 14 in Assam whereas Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) bagged 3 seats each.

Intro:New Delhi: Hours after BJP general secretary Ram Madhab has announced that AGP and BJP will contest election in Assam together, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora said that "this alliance will not have any impact on Congress's poll prospect.


Body:"The ugly face of AGP has been exposed. They were doing a drama by walking put of the alliance opposing the Citizenship amendment bill. Again they have come to an understanding with BJP," said Ripun Bora on Wednesday.

He said that people of Assam will defeat this alliance in the 2019 election. "AGP only want power. For the sake of power, this party can sacrifice the interest the indeginious people of the state," said Bora.

Bora said that following this AGP-BJP understanding, people who were supporting AGP and those who were neutral will definitely support Congress.

The APCC president said that in a day or two the first and second phase candidates' list for Assam will be declared.




Conclusion:In the 2014 general election, BJP bagged seven seats out of 14 in Assam. Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) have bagged 3 seats each and one seat went to an independent.
