Kanpur Encounter: Uttarakhand DG instructs officers to go for raids after collecting details

Uttarakhand Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar has directed senior police officers of the state to go for raids after collecting necessary information about local criminals via local intelligence network to avoid loss of lives of policemen following Kanpur encounter.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): After the death of 8 policemen in an encounter in Kanpur, Uttarakhand DG (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar has instructed senior police officers to go for raids after collecting the necessary information to avoid loss of lives of policemen.

"After the death of 8 policemen in an encounter in UP's Kanpur, I have instructed senior police officers to go for raids after collecting necessary information via local intelligence network to avoid loss of lives of policemen," Kumar said.

Eight police personnel, including a DSP, were shot dead in an encounter at a village near Kanpur by the henchmen of Vikas Dubey.

The encounter took place when the police team was approaching to arrest Vikas Dubey, a history-sheeter facing 60 criminal cases, in Dikru village under Chaubeypur police station on the intervening night of July 2 and July 3.

As the police team was about to reach the hideout of the dreaded criminal, a hail of bullets was showered on them from a building rooftop, leaving Deputy SP Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables dead.

Seven others, including a civilian, were injured in the attack.

Among the deceased were Circle Officer, Bilhor, Devendra Kumar Mishra, Shivrajpur police station officer Mahesh Chandra Yadav.

The deceased sub-inspectors and Station Incharge were Nebu Lal of Shivrajpur Police station and Anup Kumar Singh of Mandhana Police station. Four constables, namely Sultan Singh, Rahul, Bablu and Jitendra of Chaubeypur police station were also killed in the encounter.

Meanwhile, two criminals were gunned down in the combing operation in the aftermath of the encounter.
