Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): The security forces have gunned down 14 militants, including five today, in separate gunfights in the last four days in Jammu Kashmir's Shopian district, officials said on Wednesday.
According to police, a cordon-and-search operation was launched in the Sugoo Hendhama area of Shopian in the morning on receiving specific information about the presence of militants and the gunfight started soon after the hiding militants fired upon a search party of the forces.
"All five militants present in the area have been neutralised today. The identity of the slain militants is being ascertained," Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar told ETV Bharat.

He also complimented the security forces for successful operations. He said: "Since Sunday (June 7), 14 militants were neutralised with the cooperation from the people. It involved the least collateral damages in most of the operations."
Meanwhile, the mobile Internet has been suspended in the district.
This was the third gunfight in Shopian in the past four days. Nine Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including a commander, were killed in two gunfights with the government forces on June 7 and 8.
