Assam police register case against Mizoram MP Vanlalvena, allege conspiracy

The Assam Police on Wednesday registered a case against Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena, alleging that he had an active role in the conspiracy of killing of Assam police personnel in the border clashes.

Guwahati: Assam Police have registered a case against Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena in connection with the killing of Assam Police personnel at the Assam-Mizoram border. Police allege that the MP had an active role in the conspiracy of killing of Assam police personnel in the border clashes. The incident took place at Lailapur in Cachar district on July 26. A case in connection with the killings was already registered vide Dholai PS No.236/21 under Section 120(B), 447, 336, 379, 333, 307, 302 IPC read with Section 25(1-A) of Arms Act and Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984.

An Assam Police team including officers of the CID are leaving for Delhi to take lawful action relating to the conspiracy behind the incident, in light of a media interview by Rajya Sabha MP, Shri K Vanlalvena indicative of his active role in the conspiracy. The ​police have also prepared a picture gallery, which is being further updated, of Mizoram Police personnel and civilian miscreants who fired at Assam Police. Assam Police have also announced a reward of INR 5 lacs for information leading to the arrest of each of the individuals involved in the barbaric killing of the Assam Police personnel.

Violence clashes broke out at Lailapur on Monday when a police team from the Assam side went to stop the encroachment of areas under Assam's jurisdiction by some miscreants from the Mizoram side. The miscreants armed with sticks, stones and machetes attacked the Assam police team, forcing them to fire in the black to disperse the crowd. At least six Assam policemen were gunned down while about 70 were injured.
