Amravati (Andhra Pradesh): Protests broke out in the state capital here after police stopped people from taking out rallies to protest against the shifting of the capital. Amaravati Joint Action Committee (JAC) had given a call for the rally from Thullur to Mangalagiri temple on completion of 600 days of its protest over the state government's plans for trifurcation of the state capital. Farmers and other residents of Amaravati villages have been staging protests for 600 days demanding that Amaravati be retained as the single state capital. On this occasion, Amaravati farmers staged a rally, however, the police stopped them triggering protests.

It may be recalled that the movement started when Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy unveiled the concept of three 3 capitals in assembly on December 17, 2019. About 34,322 acres in 29 villages have been given by 29,881 farmers as part of land acquisition for the construction of the capital Amravati. Most of them are slender, smallholding farmers. The movement initially started in the villages of Tulluru, Mandadam, Krishnayapalem and Errabalem, and gradually spread to all the villages in the capital. All parties except the ruling YSRPC declared solidarity with the struggle of the farmers.

The farmers made it clear that the movement would continue until the government announced that it would continue to have Amaravati as its sole capital.
