Chandigarh: Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij has ordered Panchkula Police Commissioner Saurabh Singh to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe a case against Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

The BJP leader's order comes in the backdrop of a complaint received from Panchkula based manpower contractor Ajay Sandhu. In his complaint, Sandhu alleged Surjewala of taking money for jobs and evading service tax worth crores in the contractual employment of 4,000 linemen and assistant linemen in the various circle of the distribution companies in the year 2005-2009. According to Ajay Sandhu, the incident happened when Randeep Surjewala was the electricity minister of Haryana in the Congress regime.

Ajay Sandhu said that he had met former MLA Randeep Surjewala through Ishwar Nain. According to the complainant, Nain claimed to be a close aide of the Congress leader and acted as his equal partner and the minister used his powers to give the contract to his company.

Sandhu claimed that Surjewala had helped him bag the contracts of manpower in return for the huge sum of money despite the fact that his company was not qualified for it. But none of the employees was given the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees' State Insurance (ESI). But the electricity department filed a complaint only against me and did not question the other Congress leaders. A total of eleven FIRs were registered against Sandhu and he was also asked to pay Rs 3 crore.

Sandhu also claimed that policemen did not investigate the matter thoroughly and exerted pressure on him to withdraw the case.

"I was asked to sign some documents by the police to take back my complaint," Sandhu said, adding that he wants an unbiased investigation into the matter.

Anil Vij has instructed Panchkula administration to probe the case and take strict action against those found guilty.
