New Delhi/Greater Noida: A man who went to Switzerland with his family was detained at the Abu Dhabi airport during a connecting flight from Delhi to Switzerland. The Abu Dhabi police official claimed that the man who is identified as Praveen Sharma looks like an absconding criminal and has been detained by the Abu Dhabi administration.
Praveen's wife, Usha Sharma, a resident of Habibpur village of Greater Noida, sought help in this regard from the Noida District Administration, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Usha said that Praveen works with a cement company and the company has sponsored a trip to Switzerland.
The couple had left for Switzerland from Delhi on October 12 through Thomas Cook Tours Limited by an Etihad Airways plane. The flight halted at the Abu Dhabi International airport from where they had to board another flight to Switzerland. Abu Dhabi Police detained Praveen over criminal suspicion while Usha was deported back to India.

"Praveen has nothing to do with any crime. There is no criminal case going on against Praveen anywhere. He is a simple businessman. Abu Dhabi Police has misunderstood and my husband has been wrongly held hostage," Usha said.
DM Suhas L Y said, "there has been some misunderstanding with the Abu Dhabi Police. Praveen Sharma has nothing to do with any criminal incident. Their passport, Aadhar card, PAN card, and all other documents have been checked. Every detail has been sent to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Ministry of External Affairs. The family has not been able to contact Praveen for more than 48 hours now. I hope Praveen Sharma will be sent back to India from Abu Dhabi soon."
