New Delhi: The Delhi Prisons Department on Thursday stated that 28 jail officials who were found to be complicit with former Unitech promoters have been suspended. Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra were lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail No. 7 but in connivance with the jail officials, they were running an office from inside the jail, a probe revealed.
On Tuesday, an FIR had been registered under various Sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against 32 officials. It was in an investigation by the Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, following SC's orders, that it was learnt that these officials had helped the duo.

On September 28, the investigation report of this case was submitted to the Supreme Court by the Commissioner of Police.
Thereafter, on October 6, SC had ordered that a case be registered and investigated. Therefore, on October 12, an FIR has been registered by the Crime Branch in this case.
Apart from the Prevention of Corruption Act, various sections of the IPC have also been added to the FIR and the investigation of the entire matter is being done by the Crime Branch.
