Icing in the cake was that, he picked up a wicket — his first in an ODI since January 2014, and just his fifth in 290 games in the format. Dutch captain Scott Edwards was caught behind down leg side for 17 in the 25th over off a delivery from the "wrong footed in-swinging menace", as described by India coach Rahul Dravid. In the end, Kohli finished with figures of 1-13 from three overs.

The Netherlands captain Scott Edwards played a knock of unbeaten 78 runs but a clinical effort from the South African bowling unit restricted them to 245/8 from 43 overs in a rain-curtailed fixture. However, the Netherlands' bowling unit made the chase look like a daunting task with their prolific spells and inked a historic World Cup upset.
