A mass sit-in protest was held at Keishampat in Imphal West on Saturday under the banner of ‘Taragi Cheishu,’ a collective of professionals including lawyers, doctors, academics, and journalists. The protesters demanded immediate solution to the present unrest and bring peace &amp; normalcy in the state.Shija Academy of Health Sciences student, Beena Kumari said, "We strongly condemn the innocent killing of women and children of Manipur. We demand (from) the government to find a solution as soon as possible...we are fighting for justice."General Secretary, Taragi Cheishu, Dhakeshear Singh, "We are sitting here especially for protesting against these violent occurrences which is not being controlled from the side of the law. The law should take in its own hands, its own force to settle all these matters. I don't think a country like India, which is so strong in the defence sector, should have such problems in controlling (violence) for more than one and a half years. it is really unfortunate."Demonstrations and rallies in various parts of the Imphal valley have been held against the re-imposition of AFSPA and the recent killing of three women and three children in Jiribam district. The Centre on November 14 re-imposed the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Manipur's six police station areas, including Jiribam.Three women and three children belonging to the Meitei community had gone missing from a relief camp in Jiribam after a gunfight between security forces and suspected Kuki-Zo militants that resulted in the deaths of 10 insurgents on November 11. The six bodies were found in the Jiri river in Jiribam and Barak river in Cachar of neighbouring Assam over the past few days. Following the discovery of the bodies, violence broke out in Jiribam and Imphal Valley.

A group of friends from Rayan Moti village in Gujarat's Kutch have found a creative way to reuse plastic bottles by transforming them into bird feeders. The initiative not only helps reduce plastic waste but also provides food for birds.One of the group members, Laxman Garhvi said, "One of our friends is from Kukma, and he has been working on this for the past few years...and he suggested this idea to us. So, we took a plastic dish from him, and then a bottle fits into that plastic dish. Just like plastic bottles are usually seen lying on the roadside and look dirty, this way, plastic is reused, and we can also provide food for birds in it."The group said that they got inspired after watching a video of a similar project in another part of Gujarat during the Navratri festival, where the youth created birdhouses from clay pots. The friends have tied over 50 plastic bottle and dish bird feeders to trees in the village crematorium.The grains provided include millet, rice, and sorghum. As the birds eat, the grains gradually fall into a container below, keeping the feed available for about 5 to 6 days. When the food runs out, the youth refill the bottles. They said that more such creative ways should be found to re-purpose plastic waste which benefit the environment, with solutions that are not just decorative but also practical.

Turakapalem village, located in Andhra Pradesh's Palnadu district, has been synonymous with gunny bags for nearly seven decades, providing a livelihood for the villagers over the years. However, with the seasonal nature of demand for gunny bags and no alternative sources of income, workers say they are facing an existential crisis.A worker identified as Abdul said, "I have been working here for about 15 years. My grandfather and father also did the same work. We are asking for support from the government. The main reason is that we work for only about 6 months. We make about 600 to 700 rupees daily, but we cannot run our household on 600 rupees. School fees, books, and all other expenses are not covered by our wages."Another worker, Karimulla said, "I work for 20 rupees per piece, leading to a total income of 300 to 400 rupees daily. In 300 to 400 rupees, we have to manage the household and the education of our children. The work is only available for 6 months, and for the rest of the year, there is no work."This micro-industry also employs workers from other states, including Rajasthan, Bihar, and Odisha. Workers say their wages are too low to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Gunny bag workers are urging the government to provide them with financial assistance and alternative sources of employment, to ensure the survival of this small but vital industry.
