Uttar Pradesh gears up to host one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, Maha Kumbh, in Prayagraj. The festival is set to begin on January 13 next year and will continue until February 26.&nbsp;While the event attracts millions seeking spiritual cleansing, a major concern remains - the pollution in the river Ganga. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently observed that water quality in the Ganga is deteriorating due to the discharge of sewage into the river.According to the NGT, there is a gap of 128 million litres per day in sewage treatment in Prayagraj district. However, the Mela authorities say that they are working to address the issue, and all measures will be taken to ensure that no untreated sewage flows into the river.According to Vivek Chaturvedi, Deputy Mela Officer, "Whatever orders and instructions have been issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to us are being followed. We are committed to ensuring their proper compliance and are actively working to ensure it. According to the survey conducted by the Ganga Control Unit and the Municipal Corporation, we have tracked more than 81 sewage lines, and actions are ongoing in 37 sewage lines for tapping. We are ensuring that no untapped (untreated) water flows into the Ganga during the Maha Kumbh."The Maha Kumbh is held once every 12 years. This year over 40 crore saints and devotees are expected to gather to take a sacred dip in the Sangam during this momentous event.

The Air Quality Index (AQI)&nbsp;in Lucknow dropped into the 'poor' category on Wednesday morning, according to the Central Pollution Control Board norms.&nbsp;As per the 9:30 am report, the city's AQI was reported at 243, according to the CPCB's Sameer app, which provides real-time air quality data. A group of cyclists who ride every morning said that while the situation is better than in Delhi, they could feel the impact of rising pollution on their health.According to Dr. Neeraj Singh, an Eye Surgeon and cyclist, "See, the condition in Lucknow is better than in Delhi. We are a group of 8-10 cyclists who cycle every morning. However, for the past few days, we have been facing problems due to the fog, smog, and pollution. This has caused breathing difficulties and a burning sensation in our eyes. While we can help control pollution and should contribute to reducing it, the general public should also play a role in this effort."According to Manoj Kumar Baranwal, Retired Air Force Officer and Cyclist, "For the past week, we have been feeling the pollution, and suddenly the pollution level has risen. The newspaper mentions that the reason for Delhi's pollution is the stubble-burning issue. I think the government should investigate if there is a similar issue here, which could be contributing to the rising pollution. Otherwise, it is disturbing that this is the first time we are experiencing such high levels of pollution and smog in Lucknow, which is causing breathing problems."The group urged the government to take measures to reduce pollution in the Uttar Pradesh capital, saying that it must not be permitted to deteriorate further.

The Bikaner Municipal Corporation on Tuesday launched mobile toilets for women to provide them with convenient access to sanitary facilities in crowded markets and public spaces. The mobile toilets, named 'Sakhi Mahila Swachhata Griha', have been developed at a cost of Rs 84 lakh.According to Sushila Kanwar Rajpurohit, Bikaner Mayor, "Whenever I go to the city, in the market area, there are no toilets for women, and that causes a lot of issues, women avoid going to open areas. So, when I became the mayor for the first time, I said in this very courtyard that I would bring a project for women, that would give them respect and security.""This is my 'Sakhi Mahila Swachhata Griha Project' named Pink Bus. These buses will be deployed in all the market areas, two buses have already arrived, and the other two are about to come. They have facilities including two Indian and two Western toilets, a baby-feeding area, and sanitary napkins. This is a great initiative, and the most proud thing about it is that it is the first project of its kind in Rajasthan," Rajpurohit said.&nbsp;The event saw the participation of various dignitaries, including the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Vijaya Rahatkar. Participants praised the Municipal Corporation for the initiative while expressing hope that the mobile toilets will be well maintained.According to Viajya Rahatkar, "The inauguration of the Pink Bus today is really good and beautiful. It is a great step for women’s empowerment. I thank the Municipal Corporation and our Mayor, Sushila."According to Shruthi Bothra, the President of Mahavir International Bikaner Veera Kendra, "A great initiative has been launched for the women of Rajasthan. I hope that the buses will be maintained, it will be a great thing, and it depends on the women. It also supports women's empowerment, and the attendants will also be women. This is a great initiative within India."&nbsp;Officials from the Municipal Corporation said that two more of these mobile toilets will be launched soon, ensuring that all busy areas in the city are covered, and women face no difficulty in accessing public facilities.
