India has crossed 1,000 cases of COVID-19 sub variant JN.1 whereas 609 new cases of COVID was recorded in the country, the health ministry said on Friday.

Delhi has reported at least 24 cases of new COVID-19 variant JN.1, the officials informed on Monday. They also informed that all of them are recovering from the infection. The national capital reported its first JN.1 variant in December 2023. As of now, there are 35 active cases. However, India has lodged 605 new COVID cases and the active number stands at 4,002.

According to the latest data by the Health Ministry, India recorded 602 fresh new cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours. A total of 511 cases of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 have been reported in the country so far with the maximum recorded in Karnataka.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that India recorded 573 fresh cases of Covid and two deaths in the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The ministry also said that the total 4,44,76,550 people have been discharged till date, reflecting a national recovery rate of 98.8 per cent.

According to Union health ministry, India has reported 628 Covid cases in last 24 hours, with Kerala reporting 128 fresh cases. The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged countries in the South-East Asia Region (SEARO), including India, to increase surveillance and implement protective measures due to a surge in respiratory diseases, including Covid-19 and its new sub-variant JN.1.
