Chittorgarh (Rajasthan): In a horrific road accident reported from Rajasthan, five people including a one-and-half-year-old child were mowed down by an unknown vehicle in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district on Wednesday, police said. A girl was injured in the accident.
Divulging further details into the incident, Sadar police station in-charge Sanjay Sharma said that the accident took place on Mangrol culvert on Nimbahera National Highway early on Wednesday. The victims who were riding a bike were on way from Chittorgarh to Nimbahera when the unknown vehicle mowed them down in the area leading to the death of five people, the Sadar Police Station in-charge said. According to the police, one of the deceased has been identified as Jeevan Harijan, a resident of Peepal Vas village under Bhadesar police station limits. The identity of the rest of the deceased is being ascertained. A girl has been injured in the incident and has been admitted to the Nimbahera District Hospital for treatment, the police officer said.
Sadar police station in-charge Sanjay Sharma said that the accused driver fled from the spot and a manhunt has been launched to nab him. A case under relevant section of law has been registered into the incident.
Assistant Police Sub Inspector Lekhraj said that soon after receiving information about the incident, a team of police was rushed to the spot and a massive rescue operation was launched at the spot. The bodies have been taken into custody while the injured girl was taken to the hospital, Lekhraj said, adding further proceedings into the case are going on.
