Sagarpara (Murshidabad): Three people died and two sustained grievous injuries when a nondescript Murshidabad locality was rocked by an explosion on Sunday night. The intensity of the blast was so severe that the roof of the house where an illegal crude bomb factory had mushroomed in the Khayertala area under the Sagarpara Police jurisdiction was completely blown off. A probe has been initiated and the search for those wounded is on.

Police sources said the deceased have been identified as Shakirul Sarkar (29), Mamon Molla (21), and Mustakin Sheikh (35). Two of them were from the village while Mustakin lived in the Mahtab Colony area.

Locals tried to take Mamon Mollah and Sakirul Sarkar to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital but both succumbed on their way, he added. A huge police team was deployed in the area while the bomb squad was investigating the explosion site, a police official said.

Locals informed the police immediately after hearing the explosion following which a team from Sagarapara PS along with Domkal SDPO Subham Bajaj rushed to the spot.

Bajaj said prima facie it's assumed that the bomb-making was underway in the house when the blast took place due to some reason which is yet to be ascertained. Three people have died in the explosion. It's being looked at whether anyone was injured.

According to locals, some noticed Mustakin and Sakirul enter the house of Mamon at 10 pm on Sunday. Despite being suspicious, none bothered to enquire about it then.

"I woke up to a deafening sound at midnight and heard someone shouting 'Save Me', 'Save Me' at the top of his voice. Going out, I was shocked to see the person without an arm and his face beyond recognition. The roof of Mamon's house was entirely blown off. Police arrived at night after getting information," Islam Mandal, a resident, said.

Villagers said crude bombs are usually prepared in deserted places but why it was being done inside Mamon's house remains a mystery. The deceased never prepared crude bombs. The locality wore a grim look following the incident.
