AAP MLA Balyan Granted Bail, Arrested In MCOCA Case Minutes Later

As Balyan's police custody was ending today, he was produced in the court where Delhi Police sought permission to arrest him in another MCOCA case.

New Delhi: After being granted bail in an extortion case, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan was arrested by Delhi Police in an MCOCA case. Balyan was taken straight to the Crime Branch office from Rouse Avenue Court, which granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 50,000. The order was given by additional judicial magistrate Paras Dalal.

As Balyan's police custody was ending today, he was produced in the court where Delhi Police sought permission to take him in judicial custody for 14 days in the extortion case and to arrest him in another MCOCA case.

Earlier, on December 3, the court had issued a notice to Delhi Police on Balyan's bail plea. The lawyer appearing for Balyan said he himself was a victim who lodged complaints thrice and shared complete information. The police did not do anything about the complaint and suddenly arrested him. He is still ready to fully cooperate in the investigation and appear in police summonses.

The Delhi Police arrestedBaliyan on November 30 and the court gave a two-day police remand till December 4. Earlier, BJP had released an audio clip of Baliyan, which contained an alleged conversation between him and notorious gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu. Sharing this audio clip, the BJP had accused Baliyan of extortion. Based on the audio clip, the crime branch had called Baliyan for questioning and after about three hours of intense interrogation, he was arrested.

According to Delhi Police, the alleged conversation between Baliyan and the gangster took place in 2023. An FIR was registered regarding this. Sangwan is a notorious gangster, who has been living in Britain for the last five years. Both Sangwan and Baliyan are residents of Delhi's Najafgarh. Sangwan is also the mastermind of Haryana's Nafe Singh murder case and is also believed to have hatched the murder of Ballu Pehelwan and BJP leader Surendra Matiala.
