Muzaffarpur (Bihar): The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Bihar's Muzaffarpur has issued a notice to Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director, Reliance Group of Industries in connection with the suspension of services of a Jio subscriber. Ambani has been asked to appear before the commission on October 29.
The move comes on the basis of a complaint filed at the commission by Vivek Kumar, a resident of Juran Chhapra Road No. 5 under Brahmpura police station area of Muzaffarpur. Kumar had ported his SIM from Idea to Jio around five years ago. He had submitted all the related documents at that time and since then, he is a Jio subscriber.
A few months ago, the complainant's number was suddenly blocked by Jio without any prior information. He went to the authorised Jio office and complained but the company did not address the issue and instead, it kept sitting over it.
Kumar's Jio statement showed that he is a prime member till May 25, 2025. However, despite recharging regularly, his mobile number was blocked by the company, he complained.
Failing to get the issue resolved, Kumar filed a complaint before the commission through human rights advocate SK Jha. On hearing the complaint, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission issued a notice to Ambani and the branch manager of Jio office in Muzaffarpur and ordered both of them to appear before it on October 29.
The complainant has demanded a compensation of Rs 10.30 lakh on ground that his work has been hampered as his number is blocked. He told the commission that the said mobile number is available with all the people associated with his work and the matter has caused immense financial, mental and physical problems for him.
"This is a case of poor services under the Consumer Protection Act. Here, the service provider has failed to provide service to the consumer and so he has filed a complaint," SK Jha, human rights advocate said.
