Lucknow: After the family of the 12-year-old girl who was gang-raped by a local Samajwadi Party (SP) member and his employee in Ayodhya gave consent to terminate her 12-week-old pregnancy, the minor underwent an abortion at KGMU’s Queen Mary Hospital on Tuesday, August 7.

The sample of the fetus has been taken for DNA testing which will help in the investigation of the case. We are prepared to conduct DNA tests to strengthen the case against the accused, a senior police officer said.

There has also been a demand for DNA test to identify and punish the culprits in the case. SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav, in a statement said, "Without a DNA test in the Bhadarsa case of Ayodhya, BJP's allegation will be considered biased."

The minor was referred from Ayodhya to Lucknow on Monday, August 5 after. Currently, she is keeping well and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon. Sanjay Jain, the chief medical officer, stated on Monday that the minor was referred to KGMU since the women's hospital in Ayodhya lacked necessary facilities to offer proper care.

The 12-year-old was admitted to the Queen Mary Hospital, obstetrics and gynaecology department of the King George's Medical University (KGMU) on August 5. "Her condition is stable. She is receiving treatment under the supervision of specialists. The treatment is progressing in a positive direction," KGMU spokesperson Dr Sudhir Singh said.

However, the medical university respects the confidentiality of its patients which is why medical reports and other private information gathered during treatment could not be shared.

WHAT IS THE INCIDENT? As per police reports, about three months ago, the 12-year-old was abused by Moid Khan, the SP's city president of Bhadrasa, and his assistant Raju Khan.
