Ranji Trophy: Pujara becomes fourth Indian batter to score 20K runs in FC cricket

Cheteshwar Pujara achieved a major landmark on Sunday in the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy by becoming the fourth Indian batter to complete 20k runs in first-class cricket. He achieved the feat while playing for Saurashtra against Vidarbha in the third round of the tournament.

Nagpur: Indian senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara scripted his name in the record books on Sunday by becoming the fourth Indian batter to score 20,000 runs in first-class cricket. Pujara completed the milestone while playing for Saurashtra against Vidarbha in the third round of the Ranji Trophy.

He required 96 runs before the match, to reach the landmark. The right-handed batter then gathered 43 runs in the first innings while playing a vital knock of 66 runs in the second innings. He has been in terrific form in the season so far. The 35-year-old started the season with a knock of unbeaten 243 against Jharkhand in the first round while orchestrating knocks of 49 and 43 against Haryana in the second encounter.

Pujara has scored 7,195 Test runs so far from 103 Test matches with an average of 44.36 and has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket with 61 tons and 71 fifties. Sachin Tendulkar tops the list of Indian batters to gather the most runs in first-class cricket with a tally of 25,834 runs from 348 matches with an average of 51.46. Sachin Tendulkar occupies the second spot with 25,396 runs from an average of 57.84. Rahul Dravid sits in third place on the list with 23,794 runs at an average of 55.33.

Saurashtra scored a win over Vidarbha by 238 runs in the Ranji Trophy, thanks to a brilliant bowling effort. The team posted a total of 206 in the first innings and bundled out the opposition on 78. Saurashtra then scored 244 runs and wrapped up the opposition innings on 134. Chirag Jani was the star of the show for the team as he scalped nine wickets throughout the fixture.
