Stree 2 Strikes First, Makers Outsmart Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa Competition with Pre-Release Shows

In a tactical move, the makers of the horror-comedy film Stree 2 announced special shows a day prior to its release to have an advantage over John Abraham's Vedaa and Akshay Kumar's multi-starrer Khel Khel Mein. Stree 2 features Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in key roles.

Hyderabad: The horror-comedy film Stree 2, produced by Dinesh Vijan and starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Pankaj Tripathi, is set to release during the Independence Day weekend. The makers have officially announced the film's release date as August 15, however, an update from a news portal reveals plans for special night shows on August 14. These shows are likely to be special paid previews.

Earlier, Dinesh planned an unusual release for Munjya as well, which included midnight screenings. With Stree 2, he is taking it a step further by arranging special paid previews of the film on August 14, a source informed the media portal. The premiere is slated to start after 7:30 p.m. "The night shows of August 14 usually run to packed houses owing to the holiday on August 15. This is what the team is capitalizing on as the limited shows are expected to put up housefull boards all across," quoted the news report.

This Kapoor-Rao film will be screened across India, with tickets accessible on all digital channels. The early release move is also an advantage, given two other Bollywood flicks- Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu's multi-starrer Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh's Vedaa is slated to clash at the box office on August 15. The advance positive word-of-mouth publicity will give the sequel an edge over the other two films.

Apart from Rajkummar and Shraddha, the film features Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana in key roles. Stree 2 is a part of Maddock's Horror Comedy Universe, and it is planned to serve as a link between all of the films in the universe thus far, as well as establish the timeframe for future films. The film also has several surprise cameos, which will be revealed when it is released on August 14.
