WATCH: Patient plays piano while surgeons operate brain tumour

A nine-year-old girl played the piano when doctors at Birla Hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior removed a brain tumour from her. The doctors removed the tumour by piercing the bone with an awake craniotomy. In a statement, the hospital said the surgery was done with the patient awake to "ensure areas of the patient’s brain responsible for delicate hand movement and coordination" weren't damaged. Video of the procedure shows the girl playing the piano with her eyes closed, surrounded by doctors. The procedure, performed by Dr Abhishek Chouhan and a team, was observed by anaesthetists and a therapist, according to the hospital. Doctors at Birla Hospital have now publicized the photo of the girl after her discharge.
