Lack of temperament, intra-party conflict leading to Congress' downfall: Experts
In an exclusive interview with Nishant Sharma, News Editor of ETV Bharat, political commentator Neerja Chowdhury and veteran journalist Vinod Sharma discussed the end of ad-hocism and uncertainty about the Congress leadership. Explaining about the Congress Working Committee (CWC) intra-party election, Chowdhury said, "The 23 senior leaders were seeking 'sweeping changes' in the organisation and the party leadership's reaction to it has raised concerns about how dissenting voices are treated in the party. Most people urged either Sonia to continue as the interim chief or Rahul Gandhi to take the reins of the part. Fifteen months have been passed after Rahul Gandhi resigned taking responsibility for the party’s debacle in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Congress is a rudderless party as neither Sonia Gandhi has access to the party leader nor Rahul. This is not about the Congress party but it is about the kind of opposition we have in India and the parliamentary system we are going to have in India." On his part Sharma said, “The crucial meeting of the CWC was held after 23 leaders wrote to party interim chief Sonia Gandhi calling for sweeping reforms in the party. Gandhi family loyalists and Congress Chief Ministers took on the section of leaders who signed the letter and rallied behind the Gandhi family, calling for Sonia Gandhi to stay or Rahul Gandhi to take charge again. The main problem in Congress is the lack of temperament and due to this, Congress' intraparty conflict is growing day by day."
