Excise squad seizes 2.87 crore Hawala money in Kerala

Excise Department officials seized around Rs 2.87 crore cash belonging to Hawala operatives from a car on Monday during a routine vehicle checking at Toominadu on the national highway in Manjeswaram which is 28 km north of Kerala's Kasaragod district. A Mangaluru-based youth named Shamsudeen has also been arrested by the police in connection with the incident. The money along with some gold jewellery was found in a sack inside the car. During the interrogation, the youth revealed that the money was brought to hand over to a person in Manjeswaram. A case has been registered and further investigation into the matter is underway.
