Edible oil prices would be reduced: Union Food Secretary
New Delhi: Union Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey has said that the rising prices of edible oils are being monitored and that they would be reduced soon. He added that several stocks have been stuck in ports due to clearance-related issues by different agencies and that the Covid wave has made matters worse. In order to overcome the shortage of edible oils, stocks worth Rs 75,000 crore are imported every year in the country. If you look at the prices, Soya oil has increased from Rs 105 to Rs 158/kg. Mustard oil has increased from Rs 110 to Rs 163.5/kg, while Palm oil has increased from Rs 87.5 to Rs 132.6/ kg. Groundnut oil has been increased from Rs 130 to Rs 180 per kg.
