Pregnant women at higher risk of Covid-19: Dr GK Bedi
Chandigarh (Haryana): Dr GK Bedi, a Gynecologist, and Obstetrician spoke to ETV Bharat about the precautions needed to be taken by pregnant women during the pandemic. According to doctors, pregnant women are at a higher risk of coronavirus as their immunity is reduced to allow the foetal cells to grow and develop. In this context, Dr Bedi explains how pregnant women can avoid the new covid strain. The doctor added that pregnant women need to exercise taking deep breaths, in order to strengthen their lungs, which also helps them during delivery. Apart from pulses and eggs, there should be a high protein content in their diet, which must include - Vitamins, B Complex, Calcium, Iron, etc. Speaking about Covid transmission from mother to the foetus, the doctor said that though there have been instances, the virus cannot pass through the placenta nor through the amniotic fluid in the uterus. So women need not panic. The state of Haryana has witnessed 12,000 new Covid cases, with most of the cases being reported among women.
