With 33% rise in tiger population, India celebrates International Tiger Day
As India along with the rest of the world celebrates International Tiger Day, the quadrennial report of the All India Tiger Estimation Report, 2018 released on July 29 signals a positive trend, so far as tiger population in the country is concerned. The report states that the population of tigers in India has increased from 2,226 in 2014 to 2,967 in 2018, a rise of 33 per cent. While releasing the report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India has become "one of the safest habitats" for the big cats in the world.
