The curious case of Nirbhaya convict Vinay Sharma's mercy petition

New Delhi: A day after the Central government sent President Ram Nath Kovind the Delhi government's recommendation rejecting the mercy plea filed by Vinay Sharma, a convict in the Nirbhaya gang-rape case, AP Singh, Sharma's lawyer, presented a hand-written letter undersigned by Sharma seeking withdrawal of the plea claiming that he never authorised it. Meanwhile, Nirbhaya's mother has dismissed Sharma's claim saying that he has been lying.
