According to the National Green Tribunal, about 101 Metric Tonnes per day (MT/day) of COVID-19 related biomedical waste are generated per day. To get rid of the hazardous medical waste, Binish Desai, a 27-year-old environmentalist, innovator and also a TEDx speaker from Gujarat has made eco-friendly bricks out of PPE kits and masks made from non-woven fabric. According to him, each brick is 12 x 8 x 4 inches in size, and it uses 7 kg of biomedical waste per square foot. The innovator claims it is lighter, and stronger compared to the P-Block 1.0 and costs Rs 2.8 per piece. Earlier in 2016, he made a similar kind of brick from paper waste, leftovers of chewing gum, some organic binders, and plant extracts.
