To tackle the diseases caused by liquor, government is spending Rs 97.89 lakh crore despite of the fact that liquor sales are a big source of revenue across the nation. Apart from increasing excise tax on liquor, the country has recorded a 38 percent annual increase in liquor consumption. According to a survey conducted by the National Drug Dependence Treatment Center, rising consumption of alcohol is also causing increase in the spread of liver diseases, cancers and road accidents. Lack of vigilance and surveillance is leading to drug addiction among youngsters.
