Hyderabad: World Asthma Day is observed every year to eradicate asthma from all over the world. This day is observed on the first Tuesday in May. This day is being observed as an annual event by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA). The main purpose of this day is to make people aware of asthma.
World Asthma Day was first observed in 1998. According to the World Health Organization, there are about 20 million asthma patients in India. It includes people of all ages. It is a respiratory disease in which the risk of infection is high. Treatment of asthma is necessary to avoid diseases like the Covid epidemic, which requires caution and awareness.
Asthma is a respiratory disease, commonly known as a breathing problem. Nowadays, due to various reasons, the number of these diseases is increasing among people of all ages. Many symptoms of asthma are seen not just in adults but also in children. Asthma is a disease involving the lungs, in which the airways become inflamed and cause respiratory infections. As a result, the patient has trouble breathing.
Asthma is a problem that can occur in a 6-month-old baby to an elderly person. Many factors like heredity, health problems, allergies, infections, seasonal changes and pollution etc. can be responsible for asthma. In most cases, genetic factors are also responsible for asthma in children.

Apart from heredity, sometimes physical conditions and environmental factors are also responsible for asthma. For example, if both parents of a child have asthma, the child is more likely to develop the disease. In addition, asthma can be caused by certain physical diseases, exposure to animals, allergies, infections, and side effects of certain medications. Apart from this, pollution is also blamed for the rise in asthma. Asthma can be of many types depending on age, condition and stage such as:
- Allergic asthma.
- Non-allergic asthma.
- Occupational asthma.
- Mimic asthma.
- Child Asthma.
- Adult-onset asthma.
- Dry cough asthma.
- Drug reaction asthma.
People suffering from asthma should avoid complex, fast-moving and high-intensity exercises without medical advice. Apart from this, some things need to be taken care of, because a little carelessness or neglect can complicate the situation. Not just this, but in some special cases, it is necessary to consult a doctor immediately. Some of these situations are:
- During breathing problems.
- Profuse cough and prolonged cold.
- Chest pains.
- Repeated allergic reactions.
- Great restlessness during sleep, pain in the chest.
- Inability to sleep or difficulty breathing.
- Side reactions after taking any medicine, etc.
If treatment is started at the right time, then a person can lead a normal life even with this disease. But along with treatment and medication, a lot of precautions are also required for the patient, otherwise, it can sometimes be fatal. If a person suffering from asthma takes medicines on time, follows the doctor's instructions, follows a healthy and balanced lifestyle and follows a proper diet, then asthma can be cured to a large extent.
