The benefits of oil massage are not just limited to hair, but it is for the scalp also. Some of the benefits of oil massage are as follows:

  • Oiling helps in improving the blood circulation in the body. A good hair oiling can refresh you within minutes and relieve headaches and stress. Massage also opens up the clogged pores in the scalp.
  • Hair becomes strengthened with the help of oiling. Also, some of the common hair problems like hair fall, hair breakage, split ends and hair thinning can be dealt with with the help of oil massage.
  • Regular massage of the oil removes the dryness of the scalp and retains the natural moisture. Oil massage helps relieve the problem of dandruff and stops premature graying of hair.

The Correct Way To Oil Your Hair

The first thing you need to do is pick a hair oil of your choice and make it lukewarm. For massage, apply oil with the help of your fingertips all over your scalp, hair and roots properly. After this massage, your scalp for 10-15 minutes, moving your fingers in a circular motion. Leave oil in your hair for at least 1 hour. After about an hour, dip a towel in warm water, squeeze out the water from the towel and wrap it around your head like a turban for 5 minutes. Repeat this 3-4 times. This will help your scalp absorb the oil properly. After this, wash your hair with a mild shampoo.

Some people like to leave oil in their hair overnight after a massage. In such a case, tie your hair loosely and then wash with a mild shampoo in the morning. However, experts say that since the nature of the oil is cold, one must avoid applying it overnight during the winter season, because one can catch a cold.

Which Oil Is Better For Hair?

Just like the skin, the scalp too differs from person to person, which is why choosing the right oil for your hair and scalp type is important. Some hair oils according to the hair types are:

  • For normal hair type
    For such hair types, any kind of hair oil can be used like almond oil, coconut oil and olive oil.
  • For oily hair type
    The main reason behind having oily hair is the excess oil production by the sebaceous glands. Therefore, for such a hair type, it is important that you use hair oil that controls excess oil production. Research in this regard showed that herbal oils maintain the normal function of the sebaceous glands. It can also help in promoting hair growth naturally.
  • For dry hair type
    This type of hair lacks moisture, due to which it starts looking dry. For such hair, oils that provide moisture are required. Therefore, castor oil or coconut oil can be used which have moisturizing properties.
