Makar Sankranti, the famous Indian festival is celebrated with different names all over India. In Uttar Pradesh, it is celebrated as Khichdi Festival, in Gujarat and Rajasthan as Kite Festival, in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra as Sankranti, in Tamil Nadu as Pongal, in Assam as Bhogali Bihu, and in Punjab as Lohri. Every Indian festival has a particular delicacy that is offered to God and eaten during that occasion, which is mostly according to the time and season when it is celebrated. Similarly, during the festival of Makar Sankranti, there is a tradition of making sweets like ‘ladoo’, ‘gajak’ and ‘chikki’ using sesame and jaggery.
