Corona's New Variant Spread Across 86 countries: WHO

On 20 September 2020, the UK government announced a new variant of coronavirus in the country. Thereafter, WHO announced that the new variant of coronavirus, which was first discovered in Britain has now spread to 86 countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the Corona variant B.1.1.7, first discovered in Britain on 20 September, has now spread to 86 countries. In its weekly epidemiological update, the WHO stated that there has been an increase in prevalence invariant B.1.1.7, and based on preliminary findings, there has been some evidence of increased severity of the disease.

As of 7 February, an additional six countries have reported cases of this variant.WHO said on Tuesday, for example, in the UK, sample testing of new variants has increased from 63 percent in the week of 14 December to 90 percent in the week of 18 January.

In addition, the WHO is also monitoring two additional corona types that are actively spreading, as reported by CNN. A.1.351 was initially spotted in South Africa and p.1 strains were first detected in Brazil."As of 7 February, the E1.351 strains have been confirmed in 44 countries, while the P1 strains have been found in 15 countries," the WHO said.
