Backache is really irritating especially during daily activities and occupational work which can stress out a person to a level that may alter the lifestyle. Back alignment is a crucial topic to know for anyone suffering from back pain or whoever wants to aware to prevent back issues. We spoke to Dr. Janhvi Kathrani, Physiotherapist, Alternative Medicine Practitioner,and Yoga Teacher,to learn more about this condition and to know more about its management

Spinal bones are arranged one after another in a column structure to create the framework where muscles and ligaments can attach in a complex structure to form the angles of pull associated with muscle fibers to result from any movement of the back.

Any misalignment in these structures or even a wear and tear fatigue may cause pain around the back which can be during the movement or even at the rest.

WHY I HAVE BACKACHE?

Pain around the back can be the result of over activities, weakness, or even a sedentary lifestyle that can affect directly the back internal anatomy and the fitness of the person. It can be due to injury to the muscles or the ligaments of the back during heavy weight lifting or even a sudden jerk.

Wear and tear injuries due to frequent over activities after tiredness; can worsen the situation if the bodily weakness is present. Back muscles weakness or even any nutrient deficiency can be associated with back issues too.

Also, it is noted that low water intake may create vulnerability to back pain. Emotional stress or mental depression can cause back muscle fatigue at a very deeper level; even anxiety can affect the neck to back interconnection.

WHAT IS HEALTHY BACK?
Back alignment (posture) should be proper, no slouchy back or shoulder as well as no neck to lower back misalignment.

Back muscles should be strong enough; they are the most important part of the muscle framework of the body which creates the core of the posture of the body. Any weakness in muscle can cause damage even with the slightest force of injury or stress.

Nutrition plays a major role in the health of the back; water levels, as well as the entire major micronutrients, are responsible for the better health of the structures of the back.

Healthy blood circulation and enough oxygen flow in the body are the most important yet highly ignored cause associated with the health of the back.

Toxins situated in the body which may stress the liver, lymphatic and another system of the body if not washed out from the body on time, it may get deposited in the musculatures and the joints of the body that may lead to reason of pain while moving the particular joint as well as muscle.

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET RID OR PREVENT BACKACHE?

  1. Physiotherapy: Strengthening and conditioning exercises for the back along with stretching sessions. Advisable to focus on each component of the spinal bones as well as ligaments. Focus on the flip side of the back that is an abdominal region, proper strength of the muscles around the abdominal area and hips are crucial aspects for the back as they balance the core of the body.
  2. Yoga: Yoga Asanas (postures) can help to relieve pain by stretching and static endurance training.
  3. Consult suitable professionals for nutritional advice and occupational assistance.
