Forward Bloc removes hammer, sickle from flag, sticks to nationalistic concept

All India Forward Bloc leadership officially announced its decision to remove the symbols of hammer and sickle from the party flag and change the colour of the flag from red to tri-colour. However, the tri-colour flag will continue carrying the symbol of the leaping tiger. This was the original flag of the party, which was founded by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Kolkata: All India Forward Bloc, one of the important constituents of Left Front in West Bengal, is trying to get out its communist tag. That is precisely the question that is making the rounds in the political circles of West Bengal.

On Thursday, the party leadership officially announced its decision to remove the symbols of hammer and sickle from the party flag and change the colour of the flag from red to tri-colour. However, the tri-colour flag will continue carrying the symbol of the leaping tiger. This was the original flag of the party, which was founded by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

At the press conference where this decision was announced, the Forward Bloc leadership lambasted CPI(M) for the poor show in the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections. They claimed that CPI(M) relied more on Congress and All India Secular Front (AISF) ignoring the other Left Front allies, which resulted in such a disaster. Neither Left Front nor Congress could manage to win from a single assembly constituency in the assembly polls.

Explaining the reason for the change in the look of the flag, Forward Bloc’s state secretary in West Bengal, Naren Chatterjee said the party was originally founded by Netaji with a nationalistic concept. However, after Independence the party leadership wanted to follow the leftist or socialistic path and hence the colour of the flag was changed to red and the symbols of hammer and sickle were included.

However, since then the socio- political and socio- economic pattern in the country has changed a lot and hence the leadership has decided to go back to the old nationalistic outlook and hence the look of the flag has been changed.
