Indian Medical Association (IMA) General secretary Dr RV Ashokan said, "We demand a central law for the protection of doctors and safety of the hospital. Although 19 states have a law, it's not included in CRPC and IPC."

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Dr Ashokan stated that though the initiative was taken in 2015 by the Modi Government, it has not been implemented.

"There should be three-layer security arrangements in hospitals for hospitals and doctors," he further added.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met the striking medicos at the state secretariat. A doctors' delegation apprised Banerjee of the problems they have been facing at medical colleges and hospitals and said they fear for their safety.
