Bengal MLA Death: BJP delegation meets Prez, seeks dismissal of TMC govt

A BJP delegation led by Kailash Vijayvargiya today met President Ram Nath Kovind over the "deteriorating" law and order situation in West Bengal in the wake of the death of an MLA. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the President seeking dissolution of the state Assembly.

New Delhi:A BJP delegation led by Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP's Central Observer for West Bengal on Tuesday apprised President Ram Nath Kovind of the "deteriorating" law and order situation in West Bengal with respect to the death of an MLA in the state.

The delegation met the President and also handed over a memorandum to him.

This comes in the wake of BJP leader and Hemtabad MLA Debendra Nath Ray's body found hanging outside his residence in the Uttar Dinajpur district on Monday.

BJP MP from Darjeeling Raju Bista, who was part of the delegation, said that it sought the dismissal of the TMC government in West Bengal over the law and order situation in the state.

"West Bengal is suffering from political violence, including killings. During the last three years, 105 BJP karyakartas or supporters have been brutally killed by the ruling party goons," the memorandum read.

"We earnestly seek your judicious discretion and judgement towards initiating appropriate measures for removal of violence and dissolution of State Assembly for establishment of rule of law and justice in the state of West Bengal," it added.

Earlier yesterday, Kailash Vijayvargiya had demanded a CBI inquiry into the death of the MLA.

Earlier yesterday, senior BJP leader Debendra Nath Ray was found hanging near his home in Hemtabad area of North Dinajpur district.

Ray had contested and won the Hemtabad assembly segment -- a reserved seat for Scheduled Castes -- on a CPI(M) ticket but had switched over to the BJP last year after the Lok Sabha polls. He, however, did not resign as CPI(M) legislator in the state assembly.
