Kolkata:Chaos erupted in Sitalkuchi in West Bengal's Coochbehar district on Sunday after BJP workers-supporters in a rally conducted by the party accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of bombing the procession. Visuals of BJP workers clashing with the police emerged from the rally which started in the Sitalkuchi market area.
The clashes come ahead of the Opposition party's upcoming march to the state secretariat on September 13. Trinamool Congress leadership, meanwhile, denied all allegations, instead saying that the saffron party was trying to create unrest by bringing in people from outside.
"TMC thugs hurled bombs after blocking the path of the rally. We do not know yet whether anyone has been injured. Some of our workers have been left behind, rest of us have managed to reach our destination" Sukumar Roy, BJP district president, said.
"We had a rally in Malbazar, in Jalpaiguri district in the morning. Our workers had attended the meeting. Towards the evening, however, the BJP rally came out, we saw most of them were outsiders. They brought in people from across the Coochbehar district, and created chaos.
They bombed the police personnel, and vandalized our party offices as well. If TMC workers had really hurled bombs, there is the press, and now there is social media as well. It must have been recorded" said Tapan Guha, TMC block president.
