Malda (West Bengal): Did Asif Meheboob, the 19-year old boy arrested from Kaliachak in the Malda district of West Bengal for killing four members of his own family, nurtured the ambition to be a future gangster. Was his intention to project himself as a professional killer backed by this ambition? These are the questions that the investigating officials are precisely trying to get the answers.

After examining his mobile phone and laptop the probe officials have come to know that Asif was fond of Bollywood and South Indian thriller movies. "Probably, those movies were the roots behind his wild ambition. We have almost decided to present his elder brother, Arif, as the principal witness," a probe official said.

Arif might be presented at a lower court in Malda on Friday. His brother Asif has been charged with the murder of his father, mother, younger sister and grandmother. It has also been alleged that he even tried to kill his elder brother, who somehow escaped. "The escape of Arif became unfortunate for Asif since Arif was the one who informed the police about the entire incident," a probe official said.

Already police have recovered huge amounts of arms from the residences of Asif’s friends, Sabir Ali and Mohammad Mafuz. The arms seized included five automatic 7 MM pistols, 10 magazines and 80 rounds of cartridges. The two friends said that a few days back Asif handed over them two sealed parcels. However, they claimed that they were not aware that the parcels contained arms and ammunition. Police have also filed cases against the two.

The estimated price of the arms and ammunition seized is around Rs 2 lakhs. The police are trying to track the arms dealer who supplied the same to Asif, who has informed the police that he procured the arms around eight months back. In fact, as per police information, Asif’s slain father, Wazad Ali, himself was associated with a border smuggling racket active in Malda. Their residence is just three kilometres away from the Bangladesh border. The police are also examining the terror angle behind the entire incident.
