Krishnanagar (West Bengal):First, from Trinamool Congress to BJP and then again back to his old party after the West Bengal assembly elections. Have so many changes made Mukul Roy confused? It seems so. At a press conference at Krishnanagar Municipality office in Nadia district of West Bengal on Friday, he said that Trinamool Congress will be defeated badly in the upcoming by-elections and BJP will reinstate its position here. His statements made other Trinamool Congress leaders present on the dais bit embarrassed.

Mukul Roy said, "Let the by-elections happen. I am saying on behalf of BJP that Trinamool Congress will be defeated badly. BJP will reinstate its position". The embarrassed Trinamool Congress leaders on the dais tried to correct him. But he continued initially, however, he corrected himself and raised his voice in favour of TMC. He was not done yet.

His comments on the recent attack on the convoy of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee at Tripura allegedly by the BJP supporters, was even more hilarious. "Nothing of this sort happened(read convoy attack). Whatever has happened is nothing new in politics," he said. However, soon after that, he said that he will participate in the Trinamool Congress Mission Tripura programme. Later, he was all praises for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

However, the entire episode has left the district Trinamool Congress leaders perplexed for some time. Officially, Mukul Roy is the BJP legislator from Krishnanagar (North) constituency. However, he joined Trinamool Congress soon after the election results were announced. He has also been nominated as the Public Accounts Committee Chairman of the West Bengal assembly, which attracted a lot of political mud-slinging.

In these circumstances, such wrong statements will become ammunition for BJP. Now, the question is how a seasoned leader like him made such mistakes at such a crucial press conference or was he physically unwell at that point in time? We have to wait and see.
