Kolkata: Expressing anguish over the ommission of post-poll violence from the speech of West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar at the inaugural session of the West Bengal Assembly today, Leader of the Opposition, Suvendhu Adhikari has said the state government had deliberately omitted reference to the attacks.

"There is no mention of the post-poll violence in the Governor's speech, which was prepared by the state government. When the Governor wanted to visit Nandigram and Sitalkuchi to take a first-hand account of what was happening there, the state government had deliberately imposed a lockdown to prevent his visit. From the speech, it seems that there has been no incident of arson, loot, or violence during or after the polls," alleged Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

"We have demanded a full day's discussion on the fake vaccination case, but the Speaker is yet to accept it. We do not know what the Speaker wants or whether the government wants any discussion on the matter or not. This government is trying to impose anarchy in the state," Adhikari said adding, the Governor was forced to halt his speech midway and leave the Assembly.

Relations between the Mamata Banerjee government and the Governor have been going through rough weather of late, with Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar expressing his reservations on the speech prepared for today's session. During his recent visit to North Bengal, the Governor has also hinted at financial anomalies in the running of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and has voiced for an audit of the funds by the CAG.

"The High Court has passed some significant observations today on the post-poll violence and it only validates the concerns of the Governor. But, the state government had simply wiped it off the Governor's speech. We are extremely disappointed on the stand of the government," said Adhikari.

"Two months have passed since the elections got over and the violence went on unabated. The District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police and every other official have been directed to take action, but nothing exactly happens on the ground. We feel that the incidents should be probed by an impartial agency and the related cases should be transferred to other states for further legal procedure," the Leader of Opposition said.
