TMC to field over 40% female candidates for LS elections

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced a list of TMC candidates for all the 42 Lok Sabha seats of the state, dropping 10 sitting MPs. She also announced that the party will field 40.5% female candidates this time.

Calling it a moment to be proud of, she announced that Moon Moon Sen will be their candidate from Asanasol and Satabdi Roy from Birbhum.

She added that the party will also contest seats in Odisha, Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Releasing the list, the West Bengal leader assailed the Centre over a host of issues including the Rafale deal, farm distress and shrinking employment opportunities.

Banerjeesaid the outgoing TMC lawmakers whose names do not figure in the list will be drafted for party work.

Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal will begin on April 11 and polling would be held over seven phases through May 19, the Election Commission announced on Sunday.

The Trinamool Congress, the BJP, the CPI(M)-led Left Front and the Congress will vie for 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
