Kolkata: Anti- rowdy squad (ARS) under the Detective Department (DD) of the Kolkata police have arrested a forge Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and his team on Tuesday.
The fake IPS has been identified as Rajarshi Bhattacharya, while his bodyguard and driver has been identified as Avijit Das and Mohammad Sekendar respectively.
Police have recovered a vehicle with a blue beacon on it and two weapons including a 7 MM pistol and a revolver from their possession.
Presenting himself as superintendent of National Investigation Agency, Bhattacharya had also extorted around Rs 2 lakhs from a businessman.
The incident came to light when the ARS officials stopped his vehicle under doubts, Bhattacharya informed them that he is an IPS officer associated with NIA and he is currently under a secret mission. ARS further asked him to furnish documents in support of his claims which he failed to do so.
