Darjeeling (West Bengal) : The North Bengal University (NBU) is set to start joint research with the Indian Army on the Chinese aggression on the Indo-China border. The university authorities are going to build that research centre called "North Bengal University Research Centre for Diplomacy and War". The university officials also held initial discussions with the officers of the rank of colonel of the Indian Army.

The Indian Army welcomed the decision of the university. However, an appeal has been made to the senior officers of the Indian Army and the Ministry of Defence for taking a final decision. They will also do research on the Himalayas, Himalayan political science, history and borders along the Indo-China border. The university authorities have already formed a committee to oversee the project.

NBU acting Vice-Chancellor Omprakash Mishra said, "A separate committee has been formed for the research work. The colonel-rank officers of the Indian Army have also been talked to about setting up the laboratory. The work will start once they give the green signal." Indian Army Colonel Anjan Kumar Basumatari said, "A preliminary meeting has been held. The Corps Commander went to that meeting. The matter has been sent to higher authority for final decision."
