No funds for AMU campus in Murshidabad : Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday said that the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus located in Murshidabad has been deprived of funds for the last few years. The minister said that 107 crore rupees and 280 acres of land was allotted, but nothing has been done so far.

New Delhi: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday raised in the Lok Sabha the issue of delayed funds to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus in Murshidabad, a Muslim dominated area in West Bengal.

"No funds have been given to AMU campus during the last few years. Although during the previous government, 107 crore rupees and 280 acres of land was allotted, practically nothing has been done so far," the minister said.

AMU is a central university. It was originally established by Syed Ahmad Khan as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. Later in 1920, the college became the Aligarh Muslim University. Its main campus is situated in Aligarh.
