Kolkata: BJP chief Jagat Prakash Nadda on Wednesday targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her letter to opposition leaders for "a united and effective struggle against the BJP's attacks on democracy and constitution" and said it was an attempt to "save her sinking ship" in the West Bengal assembly polls.
Nadda said Mamata Banerjee has admitted that "she is in trouble" in the election.

"In a democracy, everybody has the right to unite those who share a similar ideology. But at this time, to ask everyone to unite against PM Modi and the BJP shows clear indication in elections. There's a saying in English 'Save Our Souls (SOS) or Save Our Ship (SOS)'. It means their ship is sinking. It is clear now that Mamataji has admitted that her ship is sinking in Bengal and she is in trouble and people of Bengal have decided to give an overwhelming verdict to the BJP," Nadda told ANI.
"This letter is part of their party's internal matter. But this is Save Our Soul and Save Our Ship. This is an attempt to save their ship," he said.
The BJP is seeking to oust the ruling Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal polls.
Amid the campaign for assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to opposition leaders including Congress president Sonia Gandhi "for a united and effective struggle against the BJP's attacks on democracy and constitution" and suggested that a meeting should be held after the assembly polls to "deliberate the issues and chart a plan of action".
