Mamata allots government flat to nurse stopped from staying at home

Condemning people for not allowing a nurse to stay at her residence in West Bengal, CM Mamata Banerjee announced that she allotted a government flat on rent to the nurse. Banerjee, however, warned to take strict actions against people for misbehaving with health workers.

Kolkata (West Bengal): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday allotted a government flat on rent to a nurse who was prevented from staying at her house by locals, wary about infecting of COVID-19, warned that such people could be jailed under the Disaster Management Act.

Recounting the incident in Ranaghat of Nadia district, Banerjee said that the nurse was not allowed by the locals to stay at home with her mother and brother.

"In today's world, how can people have such a mentality? A nurse is not allowed to stay at home. She has her family there, why shouldn't her family be allowed to stay?" asked Banerjee.

"I appeal with folded hands to those who are doing such things, suppose somebody gets affected in your house, will you behave similarly?" she asked.

The Chief Minister said that the government has decided to allow the nurse a government flat on rent.

"I am allotting it to her. Even if, again, such cases will happen, we will take care of the victims," she said.

She also expressed dismay over a doctor who was not allowed into the housing society, he resides and forced to spend a night in his car.

Meanwhile, Banerjee made a clear indication that the government will take strict action as if such kind of cases will increase in number.
