Kolkata:Fake vaccination scandal has come to light recently in Kasba. Initial reports suggest that the vaccine used at the camp in the name of Covishield was an antibiotic medicine. Amikacin was mixed in water and injected into the people coming for Covid vaccination. Sleuths probing the case have also found that few other associates, who were helping fake IAS officer Debanjan Deb in organising his mode of operation, were posing as bogus bureaucrats.

A hunt was launched by the Detective Department (DD) of Kolkata Police to trace their whereabouts and activities so far. "Since the beginning, we had doubts that a single individual cannot set up such a huge network and run it in an organized manner. Now after initial investigation some vital clues have cropped up that Debanjan had an entire team through which he used to run his racket. Some of his close associates were women and others also faked as bureaucrats like him. The fake bureaucrats included posts of West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) officers and Indian Administrative officers," an official said.

Refusing to name the associates, the official said, "We cannot divulge the names of Debanjan's associates right now for the sake of investigation. But we will nab them one after another and grill them."

Some of the eyewitnesses, who were vaccinated at the fake vaccination camp, have told the investigative officials that although some of them saw a few female associates of Deb from a distance, but they were not allowed to meet them face to face. "Eyewitnesses told us that these female associates used to appear under strict security cover," the probe official said.

Apart from Kasba, a similar racket had also been reportedly run at a bogus vaccination camp in City Colleges at Amherst Street. According to a statement given to the police by eyewitnesses there, one female associate was also present in that camp and always guarded by a group of security personnel. "Moreover, no one was allowed to take pictures in the camp," the probe official added. He also said that from the contact and call lists of Debanjan's mobile phones several numbers have been recovered and police have decided to investigate them individually.

During the course of investigation Debanjan has named some chemists who were involved in the conduit. Investigation officials suspect the involvement of a fake drug racket in the case. Besides, the officials of the Detective Department of Kolkata Police, the officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal Police had also interrogated him.

Recently, the CID sleuths arrested one person from Asansol in the West Burdwan district, who also like Debanjan used to fake as an IAS officer. The CID officials interrogated Debanjan to know whether he had any connection with the one arrested from Asansol. It is learnt that the detective department has also shared some documents related to Debanjan with CID.
