Kolkata: Concerned over the exodus of BJP MLAs and MP in West Bengal, the party's national president JP Nadda is likely to intervene in the matter. During Nadda's earlier meeting with key party leaders including Dilip Ghosh, Sukanta Majumdar, Amitava Chakraborty, they were asked to prepare a list of elected representatives who are likely to quit the party.

The party's national president will now directly intervene in preventing this exodus, said Dilip Ghosh, BJP national vice president to ETV Bharat. "He will directly seek reports from the state committee and take corrective measures accordingly," added Ghosh.

To stem the exodus, BJP sources said, "If necessary, he will directly ask them to come to the national capital for a discussion."

The party which managed to secure 76 MLAs in 2021, hit a new low after the party witnessed defections. Lok Sabha member from Asansol and singer-turned politician, Babul Supriyo's switch to Trinamool Congress led to tense situation in the party.

It was upon Home Minister Amit Shah's directions that Nadda intervened in the matter. Shah also enquired about the organizational weaknesses of the party in the state and sought a report from the party's state committee.
