Kolkata:The first underground station in the East-West Metro Corridor - Phulbagan - was inaugurated on Sunday. However, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State Babul Supriyo inaugurated the station online due to Coronavirus situation. Kolkata got an underground metro station again after 25 years. The station will be launched commercially on Monday. As soon as Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off the project, the inaugural rack started from Phulbagan station.
'If the work continues smoothly, the East-West Metro Rail will run beneath the Hooghly River within the next year,' Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said at the inauguration.
