'Cash for query': Mahua questions Hirnandani affidavit's veracity, says ready to answer questions from CBI

In a post on X, she said, "The contents of the letter are a joke, It has clearly been drafted by some half-wit in the PMO who doubles up as a creative writer in the BJP's IT cell. It sings paeans to Modi and Gautam Adani while linking in every opponent of theirs to me and my alleged corruption."

Kolkata:Soon after Darshan Hiranandani, the son of realty tycoon Niranjan Hiranandani, in an affidavit in the 'cash for query' case involving TMC MP Mahua Moitraclaimed that the firebrand TMC MP gave him her Lok Sabha login credentials to target the Adani group, Moitra shot back questioning the veracity of the three-page 'approver affidavit', which she alleged, was written on a white piece of paper and did not contain letterhead.

Moitra's contention is that Hiranandani, who has neither been summoned by the CBI nor the Ethics Committee or any investigative agency, has faked the truth to malign her image.

Mahua Moitra said she is ready to answer questions from the CBI and the Parliament's Ethics Committee if she is called in connection with allegations of she taking bribes from a noted businessman. He has urged Speaker Om Birla to constitute an inquiry committee to look into the charges against her.

"I welcome answering questions to CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and Ethics Committee (which has absolute majority of BJP members) if and when they call me. I have neither time nor interest to feed a Adani-directed media circus trial or answer BJP trolls," Moitra said on X. "I am enjoying Durga Puja in Nadia. Shubho Sashthi," the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader said.

Lok Sabha Speaker Birla has referred Dubey's complaint to the Ethics Committee, which has called Dubey and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai for oral evidence on October 26. Dehadrai, who filed the initial complaint, is Moitra's former partner, and was involved in a tussle with her over their pet dog. The Krishnanagar MP has filed multiple police complaints against Dehadrai in the past six months. She has also said the complaint is based on "a jilted ex's lies".

She further questioned, "Why had Darshan not done a press conference and read this out or tweeted it himself or his company put it out?."

Moitra attacked the businessman for not releasing his statement officially. The parliamentarian said she has been targeted by the BJP government for her raking up of the Adani issue.

She alleged that the draft of the letter was sent by the PMO with clear instructions to the businessman to sign it. "This is the usual modus operandi of this BJP government or rather Gautam Adani's government run by the BJP. Every effort is being made to malign me and isolate and scare those near and dear to me," she added.
